Before filing for financial aid contact each college’s financial aid office to determine which forms you need to file. Do not wait to be accepted to a college before filing such an application. Colleges may have exhausted their funding if you delay. The most important forms are:

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

This is the most important form that is needed for those applying for federal and most other financial aid. By filing the FAFSA, an individual will be considered for:

Federal Pell Grant

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

Federal Work-Study (FWS)

Loan, Grant, and Job Programs from Private Colleges and Universities

Federal Perkins Loan

Federal Stafford Loan or Federal Direct Loan

Colleges may require students to file this form in order to be considered for college-funded aid. There is a fee for filing this form. The FAFSA and PROFILE forms are usually available in guidance offices or on the FAFSA and PROFILE internet site.
